A lifelong resident of Hamburg, Dan is the oldest of five children. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1994 and Buffalo State College in 1999.
Dan worked at the Hamburg Sun in a variety of positions from 1999 to 2010, beginning as a freelance correspondent covering local government meetings before eventually being hired as a full-time reporter. He was later promoted to the position of editor and handled the various duties associated with the writing/reporting/editing of the weekly newspaper. Dan also wrote a syndicated column that was published in approximately 20 weekly independent newspapers located throughout Western New York, reaching an estimated audience of 275,000 readers each week.
Dan later work for four years as the director of community relations for the district office of New York State Senator Mark Grisanti, a full-time position in downtown Buffalo that involved corresponding with constituents, non-for-profit organizations and other groups who contacted the office seeking assistance and looking to establish a relationship with the elected official representing them in Albany.
Dan currently works as the deputy press secretary in the Office of the Erie County Executive, a position that involves various writing and research tasks related to press releases, media advisories and other correspondence that comes from Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and the numerous departments that comprise the government of Erie County.
Dan has always been active in the community, including volunteer work as a youth street hockey coach and youth baseball coach. He also worked in the past in part-time positions for the Village of Hamburg Recreation Department, Town of Hamburg Recreation Department, Southtowns YMCA and the Lake Shore Central School District.
Other volunteer efforts include a decade spent serving the community as a member of the Town of Hamburg Lions Club and time served on the Town of Hamburg Drug Free Communities Coalition and the Town of Hamburg Historical Society’s board of directors. He is a current member of the Southtown Teachers’ Center Policy Board as a business representative and a longtime volunteer shopper and supporter of the “Warm The Children” initiative currently overseen by the Town of Hamburg Rotary Club.
Dan continues to write as a freelance correspondent for various publications, including most recently In Good Health News, Forever Young and the Hamburg Sun, with past bylines including work published in Buffalo Spree Business First of Buffalo, the Buffalo Law Journal, the Chautauqua Star and the Ellicottville Times.
Dan also volunteered in the past for the original Character Council of Hamburg organization, chairing the Media/Community Relations committee and helping to distribute information to local media. He was honored in January 2010 when he was presented the “Integrity in Action” honor in January 2010 for emulating the character trait of Punctuality after being nominated for “showing esteem for others by doing the right thing at the right time.”
